Grant started Karate at the age of 11. Grant trains under the instruction of Charlie Lindsay 7th Dan at Holytown Karate Club.
Grant progressed through the junior grades and then through the kyu grades. At the age of 16 Grant achieved the rank of 1st Dan Black Belt. He is now a 6th Dan black Belt and worked through the ranks to become an instructor at Holytown Karate as well as an instructor at Shotts Karate.
Grant has had a very successful karate career and was selected to represent Scotland in the 1st Junior Scotland squad at the age of 12. Grant won many titles in both Kuimite (Fighting) as well as Kata, these include Scottish, British and European titles.
When Grant retired from competition his attention moved to the refereeing side of Karate. He is now the highest qualified referee in all styles of Karate holding the rank of European Referee A. He is the Chief referee for the Scottish Karate Governing Body.
Grant was appointed Chairman of the Scottish Karate Federation on the 21st February 2020.
Grant was also appointed Vice - Chairman of the Scottish Karate Governing Body.
