At the age of 17 Charlie took up karate at Honeywell Karate Club. Charlie trained under Hamish Adam 8th Dan (Hamish is the chairman of the Scottish Karate Federation). Charlie progressed quickly through his Kyu grades and regularly helped teach in the class.
At the Grade of Green belt (6th Kyu) Hamish passed Holytown Karate Club on to Charlie as his own club. As well as a talent for teaching Charlie also was a very talented fighter and was selected for the Scotland Squad. Charlie fought in the squad for many years winning many titles and bringing home trophy after trophy. Charlie also has permanent trophies of his fighting days, each scar tells a story, and he has some great stories to tell from his fighting days.
Charlie’s karate career has gone from strength to strength over the years. He is now a 6th Dan black Belt and a British Qualified Referee. Charlie was the Vice-chairman of the Scottish Karate Federation. He is one of the senior instructors of the Federation and is a member of the technical committee.
Charlie is also an active member in the SKGB (Scottish Karate Governing Body) he is vice –Chairman of the SKGB Refereeing Commission and is working closely with the board of directors in taking Karate in Scotland forward.
